# An MCP client cannot connect

## Isolate the failing side

1. Open Stellaris Companion and load a campaign.
2. Open **Settings → MCP Relay**.
3. Run the built-in health check.
4. If the check fails, resolve the Companion error before changing the client.
5. If it passes, copy a fresh client configuration and restart the client.

Many MCP clients read their server list only at startup. Reloading a chat is not always enough.

## Connected but no campaign context

Verify that the latest save finished ingestion and that the client is calling a Companion tool. Ask it explicitly to use **Advisor Briefing**.

If the client reports an unknown tool or stale schema, remove the old configuration, re-run the setup from the current Companion version, and restart again.
