Stellaris stores campaigns beneath your user documents or application data directory. Each campaign normally has its own folder containing autosaves and manual .sav files.
Default save folders
| Platform | Folder |
|---|---|
| macOS | ~/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/save games/ |
| Windows | Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris\save games\ |
| Linux with Steam | ~/.local/share/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/save games/ |
| Linux with Flatpak Steam | ~/.var/app/com.valvesoftware.Steam/.local/share/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/save games/ |
Cloud saves may appear in a Steam userdata directory instead. Stellaris Companion checks the standard candidates, but a custom documents folder, redirected Windows profile, sandbox, or non-Steam install can move them.
If the Companion cannot find a campaign
- Save the campaign manually from Stellaris.
- Search your computer for the newest
.savfile. - In Stellaris Companion, use manual import and select that file.
- If the folder is protected, grant the app read access when your operating system asks.
Never reorganize or delete the original campaign just to make the Companion see it. Manual import is the safer fallback.
