About the Filing Cabinet
Galactic Filing Cabinet is the publishing name used for Stellaris Companion: an independent, open-source desktop project built to help Stellaris players understand their saves, ask better strategy questions, and keep a readable history of an empire that may otherwise end as several gigabytes of screenshots.
What Stellaris Companion does
The app watches a save directory selected by the player, parses Stellaris saves locally, and turns the useful parts into strategic briefings and Chronicle source material. Players choose the AI provider that writes the answer. Local Ollama or LM Studio can keep model inference on the same machine; remote providers receive the extracted context needed for the request, never the raw save file.
How to verify the project
The application source, issue history, and release artifacts are public. The Field Manual documents installation, architecture, data boundaries, Local MCP behavior, and troubleshooting. Release notes explain user-facing changes, while machine-readable product facts identify the current app version, supported platforms, languages, and download files.
Officially unofficial
Stellaris Companion is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with Paradox Interactive AB. Stellaris and its related marks belong to their respective owners. The project does not modify the game or its save files, and it is designed to work alongside normal and Ironman campaigns as a separate read-only companion.
